The product that has given the world its best-known taste was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 8, 1886.
Pharmacist Dr John S. Pemberton stirred up a caramel-coloured syrup in a three-legged brass pot in his backyard and carried a jug of his new product down the street to Jacob’s Pharmacy. It was sampled, pronounced “excellent” and placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink. When carbonated water was mixed with the syrup, refreshment history was made!
